Building the foundations

Hello everyone, did you have a good weekend? Today’s focus is on the foundations to move forwards.

The closed beta I ran on Notion gave me some good feedback and strong support, and now the blog has been up in the real world for one full week. If I really want to have some impact it is time to raise the profile of the blog and get it under the nose of my initial target audience. Right now it’s just spreading word of mouth, which is a foundation but speed and scale are next. Of course, further market research needed, to look at comparable blogs and reach out to be more of the communities online. I still think there is plenty of audience capacity for those struggling in silence in various positions and levels of experience and seniority across professional services and beyond, the trick will be reaching them.

Settling in to flow and a writing routine is still a work in progress. The current plan is to have one post a week that will either be a journal-style entry like this, or more of the concepts and content articles you’ll see above and below this post. The balance between getting eyeballs vs having too much content that would overwhelm is also going to be a consideration – don’t want to overpromise and underdeliver! I also need to set up a basic feedback form and add a newsletter mailshot for new posts as well.

Upcoming topics launching Fridays at 6am UTC:

  • On miswanting – probably the first post bringing together some serious research and personal reflection – Out now
  • On history of help – spurred from an excellent Marshall Goldsmith concept that is a worthy activity in of itself – 10th February
  • On routines – some of the best ways I’ve found to get key behaviours more ingrained in what you do – 17th February

Currently reading: Sedated – James Davies | Last read: How to begin – Michael Bungay Stainer | Rating: Superb, fundamental toolset for figuring out your “what’s next”
